JMU Tournament Recap
The
Richmond, Hampton Roads, Triad and VMI water polo team made a serous run
through the JMU competition, advancing to the finals.
The
first two games against UR and William & Mary were not competitive with
lopsided scores in both games. Our third game against Carnegie Mellon
University
was
an exciting and tightly contested. In the end we were able to prevail
8-6. Both teams commented on the quality of the competition.
After
some interesting hospitality by our hosts we arose to face the Pitt team.
In what was, I’m sure, a surprise to them, we played some
serious
shut down team defense and won 5-2. Special recognition to Bill and Mina
for neutralizing the 2-meter players for Pitt. Unfortunately the
fairy
tale did not extend to the finals. UVA took used their swimming speed and
effective defense to create just enough mismatches to prevail 7-1.
Thanks
to our friends that joined us to play. I am sure that I speak for us all
that we had a great time.
